The producer Yoo Go-U, known for the creation of large children’s TV programs on children’s TVs of Daekyo, died at the beginning of October 3, 2025, at the age of 45 after a three-year battle with the ovarian cancer of phase 3.
Yoo was diagnosed with ovarian carcinoma in stadium 3 in April 2022, but the diagnosis came after months of delay in medicine due to its demanding work program. In November 2021, his health control revealed the levels of tumor marker three times higher than normal, but at the time he managed two television programs simultaneously.
Although he informed his company about abnormal results, his workload remained unchanged. In April 2022, his levels of tumor marker had risen from 127 to 1,171, leading to his cancer diagnosis.
The manufacturer veteran has started his transmission career as director of the part-time scene for the EBS program for children “Fart Captain Ppoongppotongi”. He joined Daekyo Children’s TV in 2005 and spent 16 years to create educational content for young spectators. His important programs included “Mystery Times”, “Kiwi” and “Classics in the Art Room”. The only “Kiwi” program has obtained about ten prizes, including recognition for prizes for cable transmissions 2019.
Through her career At the small cable station, Yoo obtained 1.6 billion victories in government subsidies for the programs he had planned and produced. Despite having three children and barely able to take a parental leave due to heavy workloads, he was dedicated to his profession because he loved to create content that brought joy to children.
During a renovation of last year’s company, Yoo was encouraged to resign when his cancer has returned. He left the company in July 2024, sending a farewell message to colleagues asking them to remember his dedication. After going, he submitted a request for compensation for workers to the Korea workers’ allowance and welfare service, citing the work overload as the cause of his cancer. He calculated that between his health control and the diagnosis of cancer, he worked 600 hours of extraordinary for 25 weeks.
THE compensation The statement was denied in April 2025, with the authorities citing insufficient scientific evidence that connects long hours of work to ovarian cancer. Yoo had prepared an administrative cause from his hospice bed, hoping to establish a precedent for better working conditions for other producers.
His funeral was held at the funeral of the Soul St. Mary hospital, with the burial that took place in Seoul Memorial Park on October 5th. Before his death, Yoo expressed his hope that his case would improve the working conditions for other transmission professionals, saying that he had been “a happy person” who had the opportunity to fight for what he loved.
