On March 4, the Chinese entertainment industry was shaken by the sudden arrest of Darren Wang in Taiwan for suspicion of attempted murder. The actor, together with an accomplice – his rich friend, Surnamed Du – was taken in custody and brought to the new prosecutor’s office in the Taipei district to be questioned. Relationships suggest that Wang has commissioned Du to attack a driver who jumped and a disposal of vehicles, leaving both seriously injured and critical conditions in the hospital.
The cause of Darren Wang’s explosive indignation? According to China Times, he had booked a luxury vehicle for the collection of the airport but had lost patience after fighting to open the Tesla door. Infurious and convinced that the driver had deliberately taken a detour to delay it, Wang destroyed the car window for frustration, triggering a heated discussion that quickly became physical.
Instead of letting the subject rest, Wang further intensified the situation after returning home. He ordered Du to identify the driver and dispatcher and take revenge on his behalf. By acting in the command of Wang, Du violently attacked both victims, also recording videos and taking photos to report. The most shocking thing, Wang later he boasted in a group chat on having his “treating” conducted with those who had made him angry.
Ironically, this crime came to light only due to a completely separate investigation on the alleged evasion of Wang’s military service. As they combed through his phone for evidence, the authorities discovered disturbing movies of the brutal attack, together with incriminating messages that demonstrate his direct involvement. Since then the police have tracked down the victims and is expanding their investigations.
The revelation of Wang’s motif has triggered a wave of public indignation. The Netizen have slammed his insensitive contempt for human life, deriding his arrogance with observations such as: “He would prefer to sit behind the bars rather than to serve in the army”. Wang initially was scheduled to enlist on March 9th.
This is the second time in weeks that Wang found himself in legal trouble. Previously investigated to dodge military service, where he barely avoided criminal accusations, now he faces an even more serious situation. Few could have imagined that behind his refined celebrity person had such a disturbing act of violence waiting to be exposed.
