The Boyz have responded to rumours that they will be leaving their label, IST Entertainment, after their contracts expire.
On September 23, a South Korean news agency reported that The Boyz may be leaving their label. The agency claims that the group members have decided not to renew their contract with IST Entertainment and have begun looking for new agencies to call home in the future.
According to PinkVilla, the group has shifted their focus from working with IST Entertainment to moving to a new music agency that more closely aligns with their musical ideals. They are also seeking more transparent management in their new contracts.
Despite the publication of the new report, IST Entertainment released a statement on the situation, saying that they are still in talks with members of The Boyz regarding future music.
“Boyz’s exclusive contract has not expired yet. We plan to continue discussions with the members,” the label said via Soompi.
While it’s unclear where The Boyz will end up, the Korean Entertainment Management Association has rules that allow artists and groups to begin negotiations with new agencies three months before their contracts expire.
One term that could be deniable is their name, as The Boyz is owned by IST Entertainment. Therefore, for them to keep the name, the label would have to sell it or grant them the use of it. However, nothing has been confirmed so far.
News of their potential search for new management comes as they prepare to release new music in October. Their most recent album is understandable languagereleased in July.
