A recent episode of the reality show The Blooming Journey 2 sparked major controversy after actress Carina Lau made unexpectedly candid comments on air, leaving two young male co-stars visibly uncomfortable.
Known for her strong personality, Carina appeared on the show alongside fellow actresses Liu Xiaoqing, Ning Jing, Cecilia Cheung, He Saifei and two young male artists: 25-year-old Ke Chun and 21-year-old Shao Zi Heng (son of actor Shao Bing). During a conversation about love and relationships in the entertainment industry, Carina shocked both cast and viewers with a deeply personal and inappropriate question.
When Ke Chun confessed that she was hesitant to date, Carina bluntly asked, “At your age, how can you not date? If you don’t have a girlfriend, how do you take care of your sexual needs?” He also implied that young actors might not like women – a remark that made both Ke and Shao visibly freeze.
Ke Chun, who recently became famous for his stoic roles in short dramas, and Shao Zi Heng, a newly debuted idol who is still finding his footing, both found themselves with their backs against the wall. Shao Zi Heng, overwhelmed, remained silent. Ke Chun, though clearly nervous, denied any assumptions about his sexuality and responded diplomatically: “For me, love is not as important right now as the goals I’m pursuing. I’ve thought about it thoroughly.”
Luckily, Ning Jing stepped in to defend the young people, explaining that many young stars avoid relationships for fear of losing fans. He noted that management companies often limit appointments to protect their image. Carina, however, was perplexed: “Why sacrifice your personal needs for fans? Should you really live up to other people’s expectations?”
According to QQ, Carina Lau may have a hard time empathizing with today’s young artists. In her youth, she never had to hide her love affairs, whether dating wealthy businessmen or her longtime partner and now husband, superstar Tony Leung Chiu-wai.
In fact, many of the show’s senior actresses – Ning Jing, Liu Xiaoqing, Cecilia Cheung – were once tabloid sensations, open about marriages, divorces and dating. But unlike Carina, Ke and Shao have yet to build a solid portfolio that protects them from scandals.
