The actor Choi Woo-Shik is currently in negotiations to take on the male leading role in the long-awaited dramatic adaptation of “Whale Star: The Gyeongseong Mermaid” and according to what reports he is reviewing the casting proposal in a positive light.
The fantasy series based in Webtoon represents an important project for the acclaimed actor, who would have played an activist for independence during the colonial period of Korea.
According to reports, Choi Woo-Shik received the casting offer For the character Kang Eui Hyun, a freedom fighter who dedicated everything to his country during the anti-Japanese resistance movement. The role would pair him in front of the character Soo Ah, a 17-year-old woman who works as a servant for a faulty landlord who hosts a secret that guides the central love story of history.
The webtoon “Whale Star: The Gyeongseong Mermaid” obtained significant recognition when he received the presidential prize for the premiums of Korea’s contents in 2021. Created by Na Yoon Hee, the story draws inspiration from “The Little Mermaid” by Hans Christian Andersen, but the narration in Gyeongseong periods during the Japanese period.
