According to foreign media reports, including CNN, on the 29th (local time), David Cohen, deputy director of the CIA, revealed at the annual conference on national security that the group that planned the terrorist attack on the Taylor Swift concert in Vienna intended to kill tens of thousands of spectators.
The director also said that the CIA and its partners provided intelligence on the group, which is linked to the Islamic State (IS), and enabled Austrian authorities to arrest suspects.
Taylor Swift’s Vienna concert, part of her “The Eras” tour, was previously canceled due to potential security threats. The concert was scheduled for Vienna’s Ernst Happel Stadium, but all three shows were canceled.
Taylor later shared his thoughts on social media following the conclusion of the European leg of the Eras Tour.
“The cancellation of our shows in Vienna was devastating,” wrote the pop star, adding“The reason for the cancellations filled me with a new sense of fear and a huge amount of guilt because so many people had planned to come to those shows. But I was also very grateful to the authorities because thanks to them, we were mourning concerts and not lives.”
