Taeyeon will skip SMTown’s 30th anniversary show after criticizing the agency

Taeyeon withdrew from SM Entertainment’s 30th anniversary show, “SMTOWN Live in Seoul 2025,” despite being on the event poster and setlist.

The agency announced the change on December 11 via official ticketing platform Melon Ticket.

“Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon will not appear at SMTOWN LIVE 2025 in Seoul,” reads a notice.

“We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this change in plans. Ticket cancellations and refunds due to this change can be processed without cancellation fees through our customer service center.”

While SM Entertainment announced Taeyeon’s departure on Wednesday, the “Lion Heart” singer told fans about her plans much earlier in a live stream, explaining that the label’s negligence and poor promotion of her music affected the his decision.

“I don’t think I’ll attend the next SMTOWN concert,” he said.

“I haven’t had good conversations with the company recently. I don’t understand why my name is still on the poster. I have no idea what their plan is. Why didn’t SM inform me about Weverse Live? SM, are you watching this? C ‘is SM staff here?’

Taeyeon expanded on her complaints with the company regarding the launch of her sixth mini-album Letter to myself in a series of messages to fans on Nov. 20.

“Due to poor communication with management this time, there were some errors in carrying out pre-promotions,” he wrote on DearU Bubble.

“They should have done better with promotional activities before the album was released. I’m sorry that the time was wasted like this and I apologize to the fans. Even though it’s late, I’m doing my best and looking for ways to promote the activities I can still do. I’m sorry that I couldn’t fulfill all the various requests that fans shared with me today, I’m really angry about it.

The concert series, which will include artists BoA, SNSD, EXO and aespa, among others, celebrates 30 years of SM, a cornerstone of the K-pop industry.

The event is scheduled for January 11-12, 2025 at Gocheok City Dome in Seoul, with a capacity of as many as 25,000 attendees.
