Earlier this year, amid the announcement of many survival shows, JTBC joined the fray, announcing its own plan to build a girl group.
Titled Girls on firethe survival show featured Jang Do Yeon as the MC, with other stars, including Day6‘S The young K AND Gaekoas judges. Along with their debut, the program’s winners were promised a prize of ₩200 million KRW (approximately $142,000 USD), an album release, a nationwide concert tour, and a global showcase.
The final lineup included several members with previous experience as performers and in other survival shows.
The winners of the show were announced in June 2024, but there has been no word yet on their debut. The show’s social media accounts have also remained silent, with the most recent post published in late June.
While it wouldn’t be surprising for a group preparing to debut to keep quiet, i Girls on fire winners do not fall into that category.
During a recent live stream, the French-Korean winner Lira responded to a fan’s question about Girls on firesurprisingly sharing that she didn’t know what was going on either.

Many felt that the group had been “abandoned”, noting the six months of silence without announcements.

There has been no official update from JTBC at the time of writing.
