On September 30th, Severance Hospital officially inaugurated the Miniagi Treatment Center on the first floor of the Jejung Hall. The ceremony was attended by the president of the University of Yonsei Yoon Dong-Seop, the director of the Yonsei Medical Center Keum Ki-Chang, the president of the Severance Hospital Lee Kang-Young, the director of the Pediatric Hospital of Severance Kang Hoon-Chul and the Department of the Severance Hospital of the Chief of Psychiatry Ahn Seok-Kyun, together with the Director of the Director of Treatment of the Many Treatment Center Yoongi Professor Geun -h. There were also representatives of external organizations, including Kim Yong-Jik, president of the Korean Autism Society.
The structure was established through a donation of 5 billion of 5 billion (about $ 3.6 million) by the BTS Suga member (real name Min Yoongi) at the Severance Pediatric Hospital in June. Inside, the Center includes specialized rooms for linguistic and behavioral therapy, as well as rooms of musical and social therapy equipped with advanced acoustic and soundproofed systems. The waiting area presents works of art of the autistic artist Lee Kyu-Jae, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
Suga has been engaged in voluntary activities with autistic children since last year, often playing guitar and participating in music -based programs. Inspired by these efforts, the first program of treatment and independence integrated by art in the world for university hospitals, called MIND—The developed. This program allows children to choose tools, join the ensemble sessions and build social experiences, proving particularly effective for those who have limited verbal communication.
The center is managed with childhood psychiatrists, as well as music, speech therapists and behavioral, together with clinical psychologists, guaranteeing personalized and integrated care. Director Chun Geun-Ah underlined: “Minergi Treatment Center is the starting point for the therapy integrated by art that crosses music, art and even physical activities. Beyond treatment, it will play a crucial role in changing the perception of society’s disability.”
Severance Hospital has announced its intention to expand the center in line with the growing demand for the program and to focus on the training of specialized professionals to continue this pioneering approach.
