Held on December 13 (KST), the 2024 Billboard Music Awards featured numerous global artists and K-pop idols.
Stray Kids took to the stage as performers, delivering high-energy performances of “Chk Chk Boom” and “JJAM.” They were nominated in the Top Duo/Group category, competing against global acts such as Blink-182, Coldplay and Linkin Park. However, the award went to the Mexican band Fuerza Regida.
BTS’ Jungkook set a record as the K-pop artist with the most nominations at this year’s ceremony. He was nominated in five categories: Best Selling Artist, Best Selling Song, Best Global K-pop Artist, Best K-pop Album, and Best Global K-pop Song.
However, the Top Song Sales Artist award went to country music singer and rapper Shaboozey.
In contrast, SEVENTEEN took the win in the Top K-Pop Touring Artist category. During their acceptance speech, SEVENTEEN stated: “We will continue to provide energy and happiness to our fans through great music and performances.” The group also performed their new song “Love, Money, Fame” during the event.
This marks the second year since K-pop-specific categories have been added to the Billboard Music Awards, including Best Global K-pop Artist, Best Touring K-pop Artist, Best K-pop Album, and Best Global K-pop Song . While Korean artists like Stray Kids and SEVENTEEN have showcased K-pop’s global appeal with electrifying performances, they have faced stiff competition in major awards categories.
