Rapper and singer-songwriter Song Mino has successfully wrapped up interrogations against him for alleged negligence during his military service.
According to Korean media outlet SBS, the winner member was interrogated in the Mapo police district in Seoul on January 23 for an investigation into allegations that he took excessive sick leave from the community center where he was assigned as social service worker.
Song was also accused of manipulating attendance records to hide his unexcused absences.
During the interrogation, which lasted about four hours, Song insisted that he had completed his military duties. Police studied the evidence, including examining surveillance footage from the Community Center and interviewing him to determine whether he received special treatment compared to other social service workers.
The idol, who said he had adequately fulfilled his service as required and that absences had been excused for health reasons, doubled down on his claims.
“I adequately fulfilled my service. There was no negligence,” Song told police.
Song began its service in March 2023 and was discharged on December 23, 2024.
According to Korean law, all able-bodied men must complete at least 18 months of military service. Those who fail the physical exam for active duty but are not seriously ill are assigned to 21-month alternative duties as social service personnel at public institutions such as subway stations and government offices.
Song is said to have taken sick leave on his last day of service.
The Military Manpower Administration launched an investigation last month, with Seoul Mayor Oh Se Hoon announcing that the government would review attendance records for social workers following the controversy.
The administration may conduct a second interrogation if they believe it is necessary.
