On December 19, A, the manager of the Mapo Resident Convenience Facility, where Song Mino serves as a public service employee, commented on his health condition: “He is unable to carry out normal activities. His body is highly subdued, almost as if he is under the influence of drugs, and there are cycles where his symptoms get worse. March and April were difficult and October to December were particularly bad.”
Song Mino had previously spoken openly about his problems with panic disorder and bipolar disorder. As a result, he was classified as a Grade 4 reservist and assigned to alternative duty as a public service employee.
However, despite A’s explanation, the public reaction intensified. Reports revealed that Song Mino took a six-day trip to Hawaii in October, which is in direct conflict with A’s claim that his condition worsened significantly during that month due to mental health issues.
Further skepticism emerged from Song Mino’s previous activities. Before enlisting, he actively pursued his music career with the release of albums and concerts, and also participated in entertainment programs such as “New Journey to the West”. Critics argue that if his condition had worsened in March-April and October-December, as claimed, it would have been impossible for him to film “Journey to the West” or “Peak Time” during those overlapping periods.
Adding to the controversy, rumors of a two-year romantic relationship with actress Park Ju-hyun, reportedly starting in 2022, have further complicated the situation.
As a result, both the Military Manpower Administration and the police launched investigations. A confirmed that the Military Manpower Administration had visited the site to examine related materials such as CCTV footage and attendance records. Police also asked for CCTV footage to be preserved. Additionally, Song Mino was asked to submit documentation regarding allegations of negligence and falsification of attendance records.
Currently on medical leave, Song Mino will be discharged from duty on December 23.
