He spoke briefly about his in-laws and their hometown.
Actor Song Joong Ki got unexpectedly candid about his wife’s family background during a recent interview.
On December 19, Song attended the press preview of his film Bogota: the city of the lost in Gangnam, Seoul, followed by a special interview. During this press briefing, Song was asked if he was concerned that the film would offer a one-dimensional portrait of Bogota, Colombia’s capital, exclusively a crime hub.
In response, Song mentioned his unexpected connection to the country, revealing: “My mother-in-law is Colombian. Many members of my wife’s family live there.” Thanks to this connection, the actor said he was aware of conscious efforts made in the past to shake off the country’s crime-heavy image.
Song recalled his fond memories of Colombia, saying: “The Colombia I lived in was full of excitement, passion and crazy food. It was so delicious. He added: “I have also seen people’s efforts to distance themselves from that kind of image.”
This interview marked the first time Song spoke about his in-laws since his marriage to the British actress Katy Louise Saunders in 2023. The couple has since welcomed a son and a daughter.
In the meantime, Bogota: the city of the lost tells the story of immigrants who start a reckless life to survive in Bogota. The film is scheduled for release on December 31st.
