On September 2, a topic titled “K-pop Agencies Announce Response to Deepfake Issue” was posted on the Korean forum ‘theqoo’, which garnered over 40,000 views in just a few hours.
Previously, it was revealed that 53% of deepfake porn video victims worldwide are Korean female celebrities, sparking outrage among Korean fans and the public.
According to the above-mentioned argument, several K-pop agencies have since announced legal actions against deepfake, including JYP, YG, ModHaus, FCENM, ATRP, among others.
However, despite being top players in the industry, SM and HYBE have not made any announcements to protect their artists from deepfake crimes, despite fans voicing their demands for immediate action. SM and HYBE’s inaction has also angered many netizens in general.
Here are some comments from Internet users:
- Does SM really work??? Can they get to work right away?
- Deepfake is serious, but big companies like SM and HYBE are so slow
- All agencies should take severe measures to counter this phenomenon.
- We go with zero tolerance, whether they are minors or adults. Please catch the culprits
- SM, HYBE and Starship, can’t you get to work right away?
- What are you doing, SM and HYBE?
