SHINee’s Taemin Faces Mixed Reactions on Visual Change During Career Transition

SHINee’s Taemin has recently become a hot topic online, not for his music, but for his heavily edited images that have sparked intense debate among netizens. Taemin, who debuted at just 14 and is widely recognized as one of K-pop’s best performers, has long been admired for his all-round talent in singing, dancing and stage presence.

Over the years, he has remained a role model for younger idols, maintaining a strong reputation in the industry. However, a recent clip from an interview with Amazon Music has gone viral, drawing attention to what many have described as a drastically different look. Some netizens speculated that the cosmetic procedures may have contributed to a stiffer facial expression, leading to divided reactions online.

The discussion intensified as comparisons began to circulate, with some controversially comparing his images to Oli London, a figure previously known for having undergone surgeries inspired by the K-pop aesthetic. These comparisons have sparked criticism and sympathy, with many fans expressing concern and hope that Taemin regains his former image.

Beyond the visual controversies, Taemin has also experienced a turbulent time in his career. After leaving SM Entertainment in 2024, he joined BPM Entertainment, which later became involved in financial and management matters. Reports suggested that he was owed large unpaid earnings and that the situation had disrupted his businesses.

In early 2026, Taemin officially parted ways with BPM Entertainment, reportedly due to broken trust and ongoing internal problems. In particular, he is said to have personally paid staff salaries during the company’s crisis, highlighting his sense of responsibility. He has since signed with Galaxy Corporation, marking a new beginning alongside notable industry figures.

SHINee’s Taemin will release his first English digital single, “Long Way Home,” on March 27, marking a new milestone in his global career. Notably, the single was produced with the help of world-renowned producers and songwriters who collaborated with artists such as Tyla, Lisa, Usher, Imagine Dragons, Rauw Alejandro and Muni Long, raising expectations for its musical quality.

Ahead of the release, Taemin is also preparing for a historic moment as he will perform at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on April 11 and 18, becoming the first male Korean solo artist to take the stage at the renowned festival.
