“Hello, I’m Kim So Dam, general secretary and Jonghyun’s older sister.”
With these words, The Kim So Damsister of the late K-Pop idol The SHIN‘S Jonghyunofficially made his first public appearance on behalf of the Glossy foundation.
“I think this is the first time I’ve formally greeted you on camera,” he said, addressing the spectators. “I’ve been hiding and never open to the public, but now I’m starting to find ways to share little pieces of my stories. The stories I’ve always wanted to tell but haven’t, and the stories I’ve kept inside.”
“I’m sure you have yours too,” Kim So Dam continued. “I think there has to be a way for us to get through this together so we don’t have to go through our struggles alone. I want us to be able to get through the hard times together, not get stuck in them.”
Kim So Dam is referring to Shiny Foundation’s new psychological counseling initiative. The Shiny Foundation, founded in 2018 by Jonghyun’s family, aims to prevent suicide among artists in Korea and help aspiring young artists launch their careers.
Although Kim So Dam has remained largely out of the public eye, she continues to celebrate her brother’s life and honor his legacy. Jonghyun debuted as a member of SHINee in 2008 and passed away in December 2017.
