After five years at the helm, Choi Hyung-in PD is stepping down Running Man due to her pregnancy and imminent birth. In his place, Kang Hyung-sun PD, who previously directed the hit SBS reality show Same bed, different dreams 2: You are my destiny– was officially named his successor.
According to SBS sources on December 15, Kang has already started filming with the Running Man launch. With his transfer, Ahn Byung-wook, assistant director of Same bed, different dreams 2will now take on the role of main PD.
Choi Hyung-in took over the role of main PD Running Man in August 2023, following Choi Bo-pil. His extensive resume includes work on major variety shows such as Fantastic duet, Master at homeAND Park Jang’s LOLand previously worked as an assistant director in Running Man for several years. She also appeared in memorable episodes like “Tail Race”, bringing additional humor to the show.
Choi’s departure was made public during the December 14 broadcast Running Man. During the episode, Yoo Jae-suk and the cast said goodbye. Yoo showed a gift from the police and said: “Today marks Hyung-in’s last episode Running Man due to her pregnancy.”
Viewers are now anticipating what new changes Kang Hyung-sun will bring to the long-running show. His past work on Same bed, different dreams 2 won acclaim, especially for its sensitive portrayal of newlywed life between caricaturist artist Jung Eun-hye, who has Down syndrome, and her husband Jo Young-nam, who has a developmental disability, a story that earned her the PD of the Month award.
With this new leadership, Running Man it should get a refreshing makeover while maintaining the charm that has made it a beloved staple in Korean variety television.
