When asked about her hit song “APT.” inspired by the Korean drinking game “Apartment,” Rosé explained:

“While working on my album abroad, I introduced some foreign friends to Korean drinking games. My favorite was “Apartment”. It’s simple and fun and they really liked it. We started playing with the rhythms, singing ‘apartment, apartment’ and eventually turned it into a love story about meeting and having fun in an apartment.

Working with Bruno Mars, Rosé expressed her excitement:

“At first it seemed surreal. He helped me a lot, gave me inspiration and even told me to thank him on the news: “Bruno Mars is amazing!”

She revealed that he trained her voice during their collaboration, leading to some changes in her singing style:

“The song is funky and I wanted to represent that world, so I put a lot of energy into singing it.”

Rosé also shared a behind-the-scenes story from the music video:

“Bruno had a clear vision about it. Coincidentally he suggested a pink background, which turned out beautiful. He also mentioned waving a Korean flag for fun, saying it would be something people in Korea could love. He bought the flag himself during his tour and brought it with him – it was a really thoughtful touch.”

First full-length solo album “Rosie”

With his debut album Rosie releasing December 6, Rosé shared the meaning behind the title:

“’Rosie’ is what my friends and family call me in English. This album is deeply personal music that reflects my true self. I hope it resonates with others in the same way it comforts me.

Rosé participated in the writing and composition of all the songs, even singing a fragment of them 3 in the morning during the interview. He discussed a song inspired by managing online comments:

“I wanted to act tough, pretending those comments didn’t affect me, but they didn’t. One day I recognized my feelings and wrote a song about it. That song, Number one girlit became a healing moment for me and reflects the emotions anyone might feel in relationships.

What drives her

When asked what motivates her, Rosé said:

“I love working, so hearing ‘You’re doing well’ really encourages me. It is especially meaningful when people close to me recognize my efforts.”

Reflecting on her journey since becoming a trainee at 16, Rosé shared the challenges of leaving her family behind:

“Sometimes I felt alone, but I was determined to succeed. Even when my parents told me I could come back, I insisted: ‘No, I will debut and then I will come back’.”

Dreams then and now

When asked how her current life compares to her teenage dreams, Rosé said:

“Back then, becoming an intern in Korea was also my dream. Performing at Coachella seemed unimaginable—it started as something I wanted to watch, not perform. I am grateful for the amazing people I have met and the opportunities I have had.

Looking to the future, Rosé hopes to continue creating heartfelt music:

“Write Rosie It brought me so much joy. My dream is to remain an artist who creates honest and meaningful music.”
