Red Velvet Irene breaks record for highest first week sales among SM female soloists

Despite initial criticism of her debut song, Red Velvet Irene has proven her power as a solo artist after achieving numerous feats with her album.

On November 26, Red Velvet’s leader and oldest member, Irene, became the fourth to transition as a solo artist. He presented his first mini-album “Like A Flower”, his first solo album 10 years after his debut.

However, when it dropped the title track of the same name, it gained lackluster reception due to its “boring” theme.

Although Irene is recognized for her beauty, her album failed to create a stir in the K-pop community on the day of its release.

However, he proved the haters and critics wrong as the album eventually showed its power in both physical and digital charts as well as on SNS.

“Like A Flower” achieved major records overseas, such as topping the iTunes Top Albums chart in 23 regions around the world, as well as QQ Music’s Digital Album Sales chart in China, where it achieved platinum certification.

This week, the song also entered the top 6 of Spotify’s weekly US Top Albums chart. She also took the spot for the highest ratings in Allchart history among female artists.

Meanwhile, on the Hanteo chart, Irene recorded physical sales of 336,805 copies, making her the best-selling female soloist in SM’s history.

In the K-pop scene, it is now at No. 7, behind members of BLACKPINK, (G)-IDLE and TWICE.

Irene is also making a name for herself on social media platforms like X and TikTok. Here, many K-pop fans are joining her “Like A Flower” dance challenge, earning love for her fun and vibrant choreography.
