It seems like it’s going global.
A major change in the K-Pop music show Ink has received strong negative reactions.
Like all Korean musical shows, Inkigayo has a number of criteria that equate to how an artist can win, including SNS, digital streaming, live voting, and more. For many fans, it is one of the hardest shows to win, but there is often a lot of variety, including K-Pop groups, soloists, and those from other genres.
It was recently announced that Inkigayo would see some major changes, including the addition of global music platform data to digital scores (which is a deciding factor for many artists when it comes to points), along with changes to digital and album count percentages.

While some fans acknowledged that it seemed natural for K-Pop music shows to adapt to the global nature of the genre, many felt the changes would negatively impact smaller groups.
Many believe that Inkigayo‘s initial criteria meant it would focus more on an act’s natural appeal in Korea, but while there’s no specific information on platforms, netizens added that it would benefit more popular groups with known international fanbases. Fans also pointed out that acts and those with more general appeal in Korea, such as Lee Young Ji and AKMU, may be interested.
why are korean music shows changing their criteria to meet global rankings when they are a KOREAN music show in the first place??? this will only hinder small label groups from winning and only benefit big label artists. https://t.co/J22AfbFr01
