Actors Jin Ho Eun (known for All of Us Are Dead, Revenge of Others, Despite, Sh**ting Stars) and Nam Yoon Su (from Extracurricular, Birthcare Center, Beyond Evil, The King’s Affection) were recently announced as the leads in the upcoming BL (Boy Love) K-Drama “Love in the Big City.” The series is an adaptation of Park Sang Young’s best-selling novel, which was notably his first work to be published in English.
The story revolves around two roommates, one gay and one straight, and follows the journey of Go Yeong as she navigates a love story filled with awkward moments, social pressures, and personal growth. The plot touches on themes of love, denial, and self-discovery, as Go Yeong ultimately experiences a transformative relationship with Gyu Ho before circumstances force them to separate.
The full trailer for “Love in the Big City” was recently released, generating buzz ahead of its October premiere. BL fans have been actively sharing the trailer on social media, especially on X (formerly Twitter), with many praising Nam Yoon Su for his brave decision to take on a gay role.
However, on top of the wait, Nam Yoon Su also faced a wave of hateful comments on her Instagram, where she promoted her new K-Drama. Many individuals, who claim to be former fans, expressed their disappointment and disapproval of her decision to portray a gay character, filling her posts with homophobic comments, emojis, and lengthy rants.
Despite the negativity, a group of loyal fans came to his defense, applauding his professionalism and eagerly awaiting his new project, which showcases a different side of his acting abilities. These supporters expressed their pride in Nam Yoon Su and encouraged him not to be discouraged by the negative reactions.
“Love in the Big City” will debut on October 21.
