Recently, musician Sik-K he has been accused of cultural appropriation.
Sik-K first gained attention for his appearance on Show me the money 4eventually signing with H1GHER MUSIC and establishing himself as a popular rapper. Over the years, he has raised eyebrows for some of the visuals in his releases.
Recently, the artist shared pictures of himself with braids in his hair.
These braids were similar to those worn by black people as protective styling, something that is considered cultural appropriation. Cultural appropriation is defined as “the unacknowledged or inappropriate adoption of the customs, practices, or ideas of one people or society by members of another, usually more dominant, people or society.”
Netizens immediately reacted, criticizing his hair style despite his appearance. Sik-K responded to some of these tweets, noting that he loves the culture.

The artist also responded to tweets from black netizens who said she shouldn’t style her hair this way, first with a tweet telling someone to “Freddo.“After this, many found out that the artist had blocked them from his X account.

Sik-K’s final tweet, following the wave of criticism, stated that he would be removing X, prompting criticism of his own.
Meanwhile, Sik-K will face his first day in court in late September on drug charges.
