THE MAMA Awards is one of the biggest Korean music awards of the year. Since 1999, idols have graced the Saccept rewards for their achievements. This year, MOM history was made by a fifth generation girl group.
On day 2 of MAMA Awards 2024held in Osaka, Japan, UNIS she was one of several artists to win the award for “Fans Choice (Female)”. By winning this award, they also earned an unofficial title: the first K-Pop girl group with full Filipino members to win a MOM prize.
Although many K-Pop groups have non-Korean members, UNIS is the first to have a Filipino line. Before his debut, Elisia she made history as the first Filipina to place first place in a Korean survival show.
Before entering UNIS, walk he was active in the world of pageants. She has earned titles, experience as a model and has represented more than one brand.
The latest member of the Philippine line of UNIS is in Hyeonborn to a Korean father and Filipino mother in South Korea. She has previously been active in the industry as a member of GOOD DAY AND Signatures (AS Pretty). Although Cignature was nominated for “Artist of the Year”, “Best New Female Artist” and “Global Icon of the Year” at MOM in 2020 the group did not win these awards.
UNIS’s historic victory is a victory for the group’s hardworking members, but also for Filipinos everywhere. After 25 years, the Filipino K-Pop idols finally won a MOM prize! Other MOM pioneers include Sara Geronimowho received the “Best Asian Artist Award” in 2012, Filipino boy group SB19AND 2NE1‘S Sandara Parkwho is not Filipino but grew up in the Philippines.
