A popular idol contestant on Mnet’s “Produce X 101” has revealed the hardships he suffered after being a victim of vote manipulation by the show.
In a new show, “Chef Paik & Les Miserables,” one of the participants called 06 surprised viewers after they recognized him: Kim Kookheon, a seven-year-old idol.
The 28-year-old idol started his career as one of the leaders and main vocalists of MYTEEN in 2017. He then made his name more well-known in the industry by participating in some survival shows, such as “MIXNINE” and “Produce X 101.”
Thanks to his vocal and dancing skills, he quickly became a fan favorite on the latter show, yet he was eliminated before the finale, ranking only 21st.
After the show, there were high expectations about his next step but he encountered unfortunate incidents, such as the dissolution of MYTEEN. He and his co-member Yuvin also started a duo, BOY, but ended up splitting up too.
Kookheon then tried to solidify his name as a soloist, but gained lukewarm support due to stiff competition.
In the midst of his difficulties, Kookheon reportedly discovered that he would have almost become an X1 member of “PD X 101” if the vote had not been rigged.

In Baek Jongwon’s new broadcast, Kookheon appeared with a calm atmosphere and was introduced as a “failed idol” who is currently unemployed.
The staff involved in the vote manipulation were imprisoned, but this had a really bad effect on Kim, so much so that he almost took his own life. He confessed:
“I once opened the car door while I was on the highway, ready to jump out.”
However, he decided to start over through the show and expressed a desire to “reset his life”. Kookheon added:
“I wanted to make sure I took this opportunity.”
The show aims to help 20 participants overcome their failures and help them open their respective businesses by sharing their “secrets” to succeed in the industry.
