On the morning of January 7, the press conference for Coupang Play’s “Newtopia” series was held at the Conrad Seoul Grand Ballroom in Yeouido, Seoul.
“Newtopia” follows soldier Jae-yoon (Park Jung-min) and his girlfriend Young-ju (Jisoo) as they navigate a zombie-infested Seoul, racing through the chaos to reunite.
Park Jung-min, known for his outstanding performances in “Smugglers,” “Start-Up,” “Keys to the Heart” and “Harbin,” plays Lee Jae-yoon, a late-life soldier facing uncertainties about the future .
Jisoo, who previously captivated viewers with “Snowdrop” and will appear in the upcoming film “The Prophet: Omniscient Reader,” plays Young-ju, Jae-yoon’s girlfriend and a new employee struggling with her first job .
Park Jung-min expressed his affection for Jisoo, “I have always been a fan of BLACKPINK and Jisoo. I once even asked actress Kim Go-eun to give me their autographs. I now have two signed albums displayed at home, one of them addressed to “Jung-min Oppa”. Seeing this, I thought, “I must have lived a good life.”“
Park Jung-min reflected on his time filming with Jisoo: “We shot about 10 sessions together in the beginning, building the emotions between Jae-yoon and Young-ju. However, there was a long gap before we could meet again on set.“
He added: “Hearing updates about Jisoo’s filming around that time, I found myself thinking about her constantly. Despite the difficulties she faced while filming in the summer heat, Jisoo remained cheerful and positive, which I found admirable. Watching his smile behind the monitor taught me a lot.”
Park Jung-min concluded ironically: “I regret not having more romantic scenes with Jisoo. I hope the series does well so we can explore it properly in season 2. I can’t wait!“
“Newtopia” promises gripping storytelling as Jae-yoon and Young-ju traverse a zombie-infested Seoul to reunite, premiering Feb. 7.
