On the 2nd, KBS Joy’s “Ask Anything” featured the biological mother of a current famous singer who shared her concerns about her ex-husband hindering her son’s career. Kim Soo-chan confirmed on her fan cafe that the story’s subject is her mother.
Kim Soo-chan said, “I haven’t been able to sleep well in the past few days and have been feeling uneasy. As a singer whose mission is to convey happy energy to the public, and given the recent increase in fans visiting our fan café due to frequent local performances, I personally am very sorry that I can’t write about positive topics.”
She continued, “However, ignoring the problem will not make it go away. Since there are ongoing casualties because of my father, I am sharing this information with you first. Today’s last guest on ‘Ask Anything’ is my mother and the story is about me.”
Kim Soo-chan added, “During my military service, I once shared my family’s story through a letter to become a happier Kim Soo-chan who stands in front of everyone after eliminating all negativity. My mother, hoping that nothing would go wrong, went to the filming location alone without telling anyone. She promised that her identity would remain anonymous until the end.”
He concluded: “As a son, I feel deeply troubled. I believe it is no longer something to ignore. I apologize for causing unnecessary concern. However, I am well aware of the fans who always support me and stand by me.”
On “Ask Anything,” a guest who was divorced 14 years ago claimed that her ex-husband is holding back their son’s career. She revealed that her ex-husband spread false information to hamper their son’s career and was abusive from the time the children were young. She also claimed that he left her with their three children without child support and that she had made false claims about his actions.
Furthermore, Han So-hee was once again embarrassed by her mother’s actions.
On the morning of the 3rd, Han So-hee’s agency, 9ATO Entertainment, released a statement saying, “The matter reported on the 2nd regarding actress Han So-hee’s mother is an extremely personal matter involving her mother. Han So-hee learned about it through the article and is deeply saddened.”
The agency added: “We reiterate that this incident has nothing to do with the actress and is a unilateral act of her mother. We apologize for broadcasting uncomfortable news that is not related to her work.”
According to a report by TV Chosun on the 2nd, the prosecution arrested Han So-hee’s mother, Shin Mo, on charges of running illegal gambling establishments. Shin Mo is accused of running 12 illegal gambling businesses in Ulsan and Wonju from 2021 until last month, using a “facade” to mask her involvement. She had previously been fined for similar charges.
Shin Mo has also faced multiple lawsuits for fraud and similar charges. In 2020, a netizen claimed that Han So-hee’s mother had run away with gambling money, sparking a “debt scandal.”
In 2022, a similar incident occurred, prompting Han So-hee’s agency to explain, “When borrowing money, Shin Mo used an account in Han So-hee’s name. He opened the account without Han So-hee’s knowledge when Han was a minor and used it to borrow money. There were several similar incidents, including document forgery. A civil trial was conducted, and the court clearly stated that these matters were not related to Han So-hee.”
The agency acknowledged that severing parent-child relationships is difficult, but expressed regret for the impact on those affected and hoped for a firm response to prevent the problem from happening again.
