A 70 -year -old Korean man was sentenced to seven years of prison for the murder of his terminal sick wife, so he had taken care during his battle against cancer.
The criminal division of the District Court of Suwon, chaired by judge Go Kwon Hong, delivered the sentence to Mr. to for the killing of his wife. The murder that occurred at 12:23 on 2 October 2023.
According to the courts of the court, Mrs. B had been diagnosed with terminal cancer in August 2023
In presenting the verdict, the Court underlined the social implications of the case. However, the Court recognized the mitigating factors while maintaining the severity of the crime.
The murders committed by family caregivers have become a significant social problem. If these killing acts should be perceived as generally acceptable and encountered with an indulgent punishment, it could create a dangerous precedent that leads to similar crimes. Therefore, a rigorous punishment for the accused is inevitable.
The accused admitted his crime and voluntarily delivered himself by calling 112 (emergency number of South Korea) immediately after the accident. While it is recognized that both the defendants and the victims were elderly and will probably cover the medical expenses because of their inability to work, this does not reduce the seriousness of his crime.
