Goo Hye-sun gained huge popularity not only in Korea but also in other Asian countries such as China and Japan due to her performance in “Boys Over Flowers”.
In 2021, Goo Hye-sun appeared in KBS2’s “Soo-mi’s Mountain Cabin” and made headlines after Kim Soo-mi bluntly remarked, “You are so demanding and sensitive.“
During the show, Goo Hye-sun spoke about the difficulties she faced as an actress, saying, “I hated the so-called ‘actress’ handbook’. I don’t get hurt easily and tend to forget and recover quickly. But I couldn’t eat properly during filming, and for 13 years I took sleeping pills because I forgot how to sleep.“
Kim Soo-mi, however, responded with her typical honesty, “You say you forget and move on quickly, but the fact that you couldn’t eat a single meal during filming shows that you are very picky.“
When Goo Hye-sun admitted that she doesn’t have many friends, Kim Soo-mi joked, “You sound like someone who would have no friends. You have a beautiful personality and sensitivity”, uttering his usual blunt but funny comments.
Kim Soo-mi went even further, rejecting a hypothetical movie offer from Goo Hye-sun before it was even made. He said: “Even if you offered me a lot of money, I wouldn’t act in a movie you’re directing. You are too sensitive and demanding; I wouldn’t want to.”
Goo Hye-sun tried to explain: “I’m a reasonable person in my own way. If someone was on my team, I wouldn’t expect anything from them.” However, Kim Soo-mi retorted: “A film set has 70-80 staff members and they can’t all be “your people”. If you were in charge, I feel like we’d end up fighting.”
Despite her blunt remarks, Kim Soo-mi has shown affection for Goo Hye-sun, who she said has been dating steadily since her divorce, “Then you are living a happy life. It’s a wonderful age. I hope your love blossoms beautifully. Be sure to send me a wedding invitation.“
Goo Hye-sun continued to expand her career as a director, even serving as a jury member for the feature film competition of the 22nd Bucheon International Animation Festival.
