NMIXX Faces Absurd Backlash for Singing “Dokdo Is Our Land” – Accused of Anti-Japanese Sentiment and Disrespect TWICE

NMIXX recently appeared on the YouTube channel ‘MMTG Civilization Express’. During the show, host Jaejae introduced “Mix Pop” by singing a medley that included SHINee’s “Lucifer”, the children’s song “Crocodile”, and the anime theme song “Pokémon” along with the song “Dokdo Is Our Land”. Afterwards, the NMIXX members took turns singing the lyrics: “If you tie me up and lock me away (‘Lucifer’, Haewon)”, “200 ri along the sea route (‘Dokdo Is Our Land’, Seol Yoon)”, “Butterfree Yadon (‘Pokémon’ soundtrack, Jiwoo)”, “Hometown of birds (‘Dokdo Is Our Land’, Lily)”, “No matter how much anyone insists that is their land (‘Do kdo Is Our Land’, Bae)” and “The crocodiles are coming out (‘Crocodile’, Kyujin)”.

However, NMIXX’s performance of “Dokdo Is Our Land” sparked a wave of hateful comments accusing them of “anti-Japanese actions.”

Some Japanese Internet users bombarded them with hate comments such as “I will not support NMIXX” and “Be prepared if you plan to continue operations in Japan.” Some even criticized their behavior, calling it disrespectful towards Sana, Mina and Momo, the Japanese members of TWICE, who come from the same agency, JYP Entertainment, which was met with ridicule.

NMIXX are currently enjoying success, having won 1st place on KBS2’s ‘Music Bank’ with their recent title track “Love Me Like This” from their album Fe3O4: PROTECTreleased last month. They are also set to hold their second concert for fans from October 4th to 6th at Jangchung Gymnasium in Seoul.
