The legal drama between NjzFormer Newjeans, and their previous talents management agency, Ador, have reached a critical moment. The central district court of Soul has held its first hearing on the request for injunction of the latter.
During the hearingThe agency said that she is trying to prevent NJz from pursuing independent activities, claiming that the group remains tied by an exclusive contract. In the meantime, the members of the NJZ and their representatives claimed that the agreement was resolved last November due to alleged violations by Ador.
Tensions intensified in front of the hearing when Njz’s parents issued a statement on Instagram Accusing Ador of expanding his request for injunction in February to ban not only advertising agreements but all musical and entertainment activities. They said that this move was an attempt to suppress the group’s career, while the public was outlined on his intentions.
“It is an attempt to compromise our professional freedom,” said the group. “Njz’s nucleus is musical activities, so binding this is equivalent to denying our existential value.”
In response, Ador has issued a refutation, admitting to expand his request for an injunction but to defend it as a necessary step due to the continuous activities of the NJZ, including new musical outings and concert plans abroad. The agency stressed that its goal was not to limit NJZ’s career, but to guarantee respect for their contractual obligations.
“We are not trying to limit their activities, but to warn them to keep their activities while we adhere to the contractual agreements signed with Ador”, the agency he said.
It is worth noting that all five NJZ members – Danielle, Hanni, Haerin, Hyein and Minji – have made a surprise appearance despite not being required to participate in the hearing.
The Court’s decision on this injunction is foreseen within weeks and will determine whether NJZ can continue independent activities in the meantime. Having said that, there is a separate process for April 3, during which the Court will face the main question of the fact that NJZ’s contact with Ador remains legally binding.
