NewJeans has sparked divided reactions with its latest move amid its ongoing feud with labels ADOR and HYBE.
Since the members (Minji, Hanni, Haerin, Danielle and Hyein) unilaterally terminated their contracts with ADOR, they have been running their programs independently, a decision that distances them from their previous agency.
A significant step was the launch of the group’s separate Instagram account, @jeanzforfree, which is entirely run by the members themselves and is out of reach of ADOR or HYBE.
Members use this platform to post daily updates and connect with their devoted fans, Bunnies.
However, some fans are left scratching their heads over the group’s latest post.
On the platform, NewJeans shared a post featuring a party popper emoji on an all-bright yellow background. In the caption, the members announced a two-day contest for the rabbits, inviting them to unleash their creativity by coming up with temporary suggestions for band names.
“Bunnies! We will have a two-day contest for a new business to find a temporary name for the group that we will use for a certain period of time,” NewJeans shared.
“Please chime in on the comments!” the group added.
“Bunnies, tell us lots of cute names and we’ll choose! It’s so exciting.”
Fans were more than willing to express their witty ideas in the comments section, with some names like “JeanZ,” “Everjeans,” and “Denim Dream.”
However, on X (formerly Twitter), some netizens couldn’t help but wonder about NewJeans’ plan of action, highlighting the uncertainty in their future as a group. They also believed that making such a move would only prolong their already tense conflict with ADOR.
