The five members of New Jeans have made the important decision to leave their agency, WORSHIPER. Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin and Hyein officially announces the termination of the contract by the end of the month.
NewJeans members announce termination of contract
Earlier this month, on November 13, the group sent a formal content certification to ADOR, outlining material violations of their exclusive contracts and requesting a rectification within 14 days. In their communication they warned that failure to address their concerns would result in the termination of their agreements.
On November 28, members held a emergency press conference announce your decision publicly. During the conference they detailed the unresolved issues that led to this drastic step, citing ADOR’s alleged contractual violations and the lack of an adequate response to their complaints. They underlined their collective determination to prioritize their rights and professional integrity over continuation under adverse conditions.
“The reason we are leaving ADOR is very simple, and I think the journalists here who know our situation are all very aware as well,” they said. “NewJeans is an ADOR artist and ADOR is obligated to protect NewJeans. It is the fundamental obligation of an agency. ADOR does not have the will or ability to protect NewJeans. If we stay here, it will be a waste of time and our mental distress will continue. More than anything, there is nothing we can earn in terms of work, so the five of us think there is no reason to stay at ADOR.“
“Accordingly, the exclusive contracts between NewJeans and ADOR will be terminated effective November 29 at 12:00 am KST. However, HYBE and ADOR are currently differentiating the two companies as a pun, insisting that it cannot be a breach of contract because HYBE and not ADOR are to blame. However, as everyone knows, HYBE and ADOR are now practically one entity. The ADOR with which we worked has already changed a lot and the directors who were in the company before were all suddenly fired. Now they are differentiating between HYBE and ADOR, and we really can’t accept the argument that we have to keep our exclusive contracts with ADOR which has been changed to what HYBE wants, which has cut ties with [music video] director who worked hard with us, breaking all this trust. Accordingly, we have requested a rectification regarding violations of our contract and, as previously mentioned, the time period for such rectification ends tonight at midnight.”
ADOR reacts to NewJeans announcement
It didn’t take long for ADOR to respond to NewJeans’ announcement, expressing regret over the situation and reiterating its position.
“ADOR, as a party to the exclusive contracts, has not breached the contracts and claiming that trust has been breached unilaterally does not constitute grounds for termination,” the statement read. “The exclusive contracts between ADOR and NewJeans members remain valid. We therefore expect the activities planned together with ADOR to continue as they have done until now.”
“We requested several meetings with the artists, but they were not carried out” he continued. “We hope that even now we can open our hearts and have honest conversations together.”
The development marks a significant turning point for NewJeans, who have been widely recognized for their meteoric rise in the K-pop industry. The group’s departure from ADOR has left fans and industry observers speculating about their next steps and future endeavors.
