NCT, Epik High and more K-pop Idol Lightstick see increased demand amid protest

As Koreans continue to protest President Yoon Suk Yeol, members of the K-pop community have played a significant role by using their moonlights during the demonstrations.

Earlier, calls to impeach President Yoon Suk Yeol were rejected, prompting protesters to undertake a second round of candlelight vigils this weekend.

However, instead of candles, several K-pop fans, who joined the rally on December 7, used their glow sticks to illuminate the crowd. On that occasion the roll call also took place.

As a result, the demand for these K-pop items has rapidly increased nationwide.

“This is NCT’s light stick (Neobong) which became popular as a protest item this time. I used it once during NCT Dream’s solo concert last year, and it has stronger lighting power than ver 2 released this year. Get it now,” one fan said.

As a result, the item has become in high demand due to its better light output and longevity compared to LED candles. Among the light sticks, NCT’s design is the most preferred and convenient as protesters can customize it and attach phrases such as “impeachment” and “resign” to the light of the cube.

Since December 9th, transactions of idol lightsticks have been brisk in all areas of Seoul at Karrot Market. The NCT fanlights quickly sold out due to the sizable NCTzen fandom. With this, most buyers have resorted to purchasing second-hand products.

The second most popular is Epik High’s cheering stick, Park Kyu Bong. Since it is shaped like a middle finger, it perfectly expresses the emotions of the protesters.

Other bezels used in the rallies were hammerbong (BLACKPINK), Pharynx/Eribong (EXO), BangBong (BIGBANG) and shating star (SHINee). Amid the protests, these glow sticks also saw an increase in sales from ₩20,000 to ₩40,000 ($14 to $28).
