Taiwanese public television’s Taiyu Channel held a press conference today to launch its new drama “Nice Play.” The event was attended by actors Huang Teng-hui, GAGA, beloved cheerleader Nam Min-jeong and Hsiao Ching. During the press conference, Nam Min-jeong not only asked if she would stay with the Fubon Angels next year, but also shared an uncomfortable memory from her time as a cheerleader in Korea: she had been groped by a fan, and she urged fans to respect boundaries and not make the cheerleaders uncomfortable.
Nam Min-jeong, also known as Xiao Nan, previously injured her ankle. During the event, she provided an update on her condition: “It’s better now, I’ve received treatment. I can’t go into too much detail and I haven’t been hospitalized. After twisting my right ankle, I overused my thigh which caused muscle cramps and took me to the infirmary. Thank you all for your concern.”
When asked if she would stay at Fubon next year, Xiao Nan replied: “I never imagined wearing another team’s jersey. Fubon is my home.”
Nam Min-jeong also commented on a recent incident involving his teammate Lee Joo-young, who was reportedly hugged on the waist by a fan.
“There have been similar cases of harassment in Korea as well. This kind of behavior is not acceptable. I hope fans can be aware of the limits. About five years ago, there was a fan who groped me and several other cheerleaders on the buttocks. Someone on site immediately informed the team staff to take care of it.”
She added thoughtfully: “People may think that cheerleaders live a glamorous life, but we also face many difficult situations. I hope that the rookies in this show can face their lowest moments with courage, and I hope to see them on the same stage one day.”
When asked about baseball player Chen Chen-wei’s marriage proposal to his girlfriend Chiu Chiu, Nam Min-jeong responded with a hint of melancholy: “I’m also number 98, just like Chen Chen-wei. Chiu Chiu is number 49: that’s half his size. But where is my other half?”
He expressed the hope of meeting his life partner one day.
