In the preview that aired at the end of the February 4 episode of tvN’s You Quiz on the Block, a teaser featuring Heo Gayoon offered a glimpse into his heartfelt interview. In the preview, Heo Gayoon revealed that she has been living in Bali for the past three years, explaining that she found a sense of simple happiness there after moving away from her life in Korea.
Opening up about her decision to leave, she spoke candidly about the hardships she has endured in the past, including being involved in school violence and choosing to endure it in silence. She also revealed that she struggled with binge eating but was unable to confide in anyone, describing how she would eat until physical pain forced her to stop. These painful memories, she explained, ultimately pushed her to seek distance and healing.
His story became even more heartbreaking when he spoke about the sudden loss of his older brother. Heo Gayoon’s brother suffered from a chronic illness and his condition had worsened before he died in 2020. Recalling the moment she received the news, she said tearfully, “I was told that my brother had died suddenly,” before revealing the devastating words her parents later shared with her: “They said, ‘If you weren’t here, we would like to follow our son.'” She described how her family struggled together to survive the overwhelming grief that followed, movingly spectators in tears.
Earlier this year, Heo Gayoon had already touched the public with a similar confession through the Sebasi Talk channel, where he spoke of a mental breakdown while sorting out his brother’s things. He explained that his brother had only recently moved out on his own, making the experience even more painful. As he searched the apartment, his words rang in his mind and he felt a deep pain that he had spent so much time working without being able to fully enjoy life.

What hurt her most, she said, was seeing that many of her appliances were still brand new. “If he had known this would happen, he wouldn’t have said ‘next time’ or ‘later’ so often,” he mused, imagining how much remorse he might have felt. Overcome with emotion, Heo Gayoon concluded that the experience made her realize how fleeting and fragile life truly is.
Her honest and vulnerable story resonated with viewers, offering a powerful reminder of family, loss and the importance of loving the present.
