More seats become available as the ARIRANG Gwanghwamun show expands capacity

BTS has increased audience capacity for its upcoming concert “BTS THE COMEBACK LIVE | ARIRANG” at Gwanghwamun Square in central Seoul, making thousands of additional seats and standing room available to fans after initial tickets quickly sold out.

The group’s agency, BigHit Music, announced Tuesday that the March 21 comeback show will now host about 22,000 attendees on site, up from the 15,000 previously planned.

The increase follows intense demand for the free event, which marks the first performance by the entire BTS group since all members completed their military service and coincides with the release of their fifth studio album “Arirang” on March 20.

According to the agency, new rest areas will be added along Sejong-daero, extending from Gwanghwamun Intersection towards City Hall Station. allkpop.

Fans in these expanded areas will watch the show through large LED screens installed across the street, allowing more people to watch the show while keeping the density of the main plaza under control.

Additional tickets for the new standing sections will open through the NOL Ticket platform starting March 12 at 8pm KST, with a limit of one ticket per person. Organizers said ticket purchases will remain free and stressed that existing bookings will not be affected, meaning fans who have already secured seats will not have to rebook.

BigHit Music stressed that the capacity expansion was designed with safety and crowd management top priority, amid projections that more than 200,000 people could flood the wider Gwanghwamun area, including non-ticketed concertgoers.

Police and city officials plan to operate the area as a temporary stadium, controlling entry and exit through designated routes and monitoring crowd levels in real time, Korea JoongAng Daily reported.

Organizers have also pledged to crack down on scalping and illegal resales, saying they will strengthen identity checks at entry points and monitor secondary markets to block unauthorized transfers.

Access to designated areas will be limited to those with valid pre-sale tickets, although the concert will be broadcast live worldwide via Netflix for fans unable to attend in person.

With the stage set against the historic backdrop of Gwanghwamun Square, ARIRANG’s comeback concert is expected to be a major cultural moment for both BTS and the city of Seoul, fusing a large-scale K-pop performance with rigorous security planning to manage unprecedented fan interest, as expected by the Herald of Korea.
