On October 15, Japanese TV Asahi·ANN’s comprehensive news program “Hodo Station” reported an exclusive interview with Min Hee-jin.
In the interview, Min Hee-jin said: “At the moment I have not signed a producer contract, so I am neither a producer nor a CEO. I only have the authority of an internal director, so I’m in a bit of a fluctuating situation.“
He continued: “Of course I am still continuing the practical work that I had planned and conducted before. While I’m doing the actual work, I feel like the next steps are uncertain and I want to resolve this situation quickly.”
Min Hee-jin expressed uncertainty about the future of NewJeans”I don’t know what will happen to NewJeans. I’ll just leave it to fate” and added: “I was already thinking about a full album early next year, starting with a world tour. But who could have predicted that something like this would happen?“
He also revealed his affection for NewJeans members, mentioning Hanni, who appeared as a reference at the hearing of the National Assembly’s Environment and Labor Committee on October 15. Min Hee-jin said: “Since Hanni’s mother isn’t in Seoul right now, it’s natural that I have to play the role of her mother while I’m in Seoul. Someone has to be a support.”
Regarding the dispute between executives and HYBE and his dismissal from the CEO position, he stated: “It is contradictory to accuse me of betraying trust by offering me a producer role. I chose to join because HYBE said they wanted to create a new wave and flow in K-pop. If these aspects had not been guaranteed I would not even have joined the company.”
Min Hee-jin remarked: “I think this is just a temporary hiatus; I don’t think it’s over. This controversy will somehow come to a conclusion and I will do my best to carry out NewJeans’ plans.”
Previously, HYBE launched an audit in April, alleging that Min Hee-jin attempted to take control of ADOR. In August, they fired her from her CEO position and appointed Kim Joo-young as the new CEO. In this regard, NewJeans members conducted a live broadcast calling for Min Hee-jin’s reinstatement as CEO, and Min Hee-jin filed an application for an interim injunction claiming that her dismissal was unfair.
