On August 10, the official X (ex Twitter) account of Mega MGC Coffee “MGC” published an event announcement that celebrates the birthday of the member of the Wish NCT Sakuya. In the attention, the brand referred to Sakuya as “Bread for children”, citing his love for bread and his young age.
However, “Baby Bread” has long been a nickname used by stray children from his debut. Stray Kids fans claimed that the name has been closely linked for years and should not be used for another idol. They asked the company to review the notice.
While the protests continued, Mega MGC Coffee has eliminated the original announcement. Two days later, the company republished the notice with the same content but removed the term “bread for children”.
Stray Kids fans welcomed the change, commenting, “In the end, they solved it.” On the other hand, NCT Wish fans expressed disappointment, affirming, “He is crossing the line to criticize a member only because of a phrase used by the advertiser.”
The controversy has aroused mixed reactions online. Some Netizen stressed him “Children’s bread” is a commonly used term “ and criticized fans for “Harassing an official account on a nickname”. Others noticed it “Inside the fandoms, overlapping nicknames can be a sensitive problem”.
