The 2024 MBC Drama Awards aired on January 5, revisiting the significant moments of 2024, a year full of well-made dramas and beloved actors. Here, actor Han Suk-kyu received the Daesang for the K-drama “Doubt”, which marked his return to MBC after 3 decades.
However, in his acceptance speech, the veteran actor did not celebrate or express joy. Instead, he referenced the recent Jeju Air crash on December 29, saying: “Like everyone here, I feel sorry. Organizing an event like this makes me want to apologize to the spectators. What we as actors do is for the audience, but such a heartbreaking event occurred.”
He continued, “Family has been a central theme in my career. Through “Doubt” I wanted to convey the importance of family. Acting means finding ways to honestly communicate my emotions to the audience.
Meanwhile, actress Lee Ha-nee (Honey Lee), who won the best actress award in the miniseries category for “Knight Flower,” said: “I didn’t think I deserved such an important award, but I’ve been lucky enough to work with wonderful people. Despite the physical challenges, the support of spectators has allowed me to stay here. I want to dedicate this award to those who continue to sacrifice themselves for others.”
The best actor award in the miniseries category went to Yoo Yeon-seok for “When the Telephone Rings” and Lee Je-hoon for “Chief Detective 1958”. Yoo Yeon-seok expressed gratitude to the cast and crew of his drama, adding, “December was particularly cold and full of pain. I hope 2025 brings only joy.”
At the same time, Lee Je-hoon states: “Even though I felt lacking in many ways while working on the project, I did my best with the idea of giving viewers a valuable work. I think it will be a piece that will be remembered for the rest of my life.” He also showed gratitude to actor Choi Bul-am, whose role he recreated, honoring the latter’s legacy.
Overall, “Black Out (TV Series)” won 5 awards, including Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Character, and Best New Actor. “When the Phone Rings” received 4 trophies, including Best Couple. “Chief Detective 1958” was proclaimed the drama film of the year, while “Knight Flowers” also achieved 4 wins.
Veteran actor Choi Bul-am received the Lifetime Achievement Award, while the late Kim Soo-mi was honored posthumously with a special plaque of appreciation. Actress Seo Hyo-rim accepted on her behalf, emotionally recalling Kim Soo-mi’s connection with MBC.
The event also unveiled MBC’s 2025 drama lineup, featuring various genres from romance “Motel California,” to undercover high school agent series “Undercover High School,” to teen romance “Bunny and Her Boys” and work issues. drama “Labor Lawyer Noh Moo-jin”.
