Man who burgled Park Na Rae home to face appeal trial in January 2026 after 2-year sentence

According to the Criminal Division 2-1 (Appellate) of Seoul Western District Court, the appeal trial of 37-year-old Jung, convicted of theft and home invasion at night, will begin on January 22 next year.

Previously, in September, the lower court sentenced Jung to two years in prison. Although he admitted guilt and expressed a willingness to surrender, he appealed the sentence and submitted three letters of reflection to the court of appeal, suggesting that he challenge the severity of the sentence rather than the conviction itself.

On April 18, Yongsan Police Station in Seoul announced that the suspect, identified only as Jung, in his 30s, had been transferred to prosecution custody on charges of trespassing and night theft. Jung is accused of breaking into Park Na-rae’s residence in Yongsan District on April 4 and fleeing with valuables worth millions of KRW. Authorities also discovered that he had attempted to sell the stolen items.

Although there were rumors suggesting that an insider may have been involved due to knowledge of the house’s layout, it was confirmed that Jung had no prior acquaintance with Park Na-rae.

According to the police, Jung had also committed a similar theft at another house in the same district at the end of March. The two cases were consolidated and he was charged with breaking and entering and theft.
