According to Busan Jungbu police, a report was presented at 20:10 on 29 July, claiming that a dog had been stored inside a commercial refrigerator in a local pizza shop. The authorities replied promptly. “The temperature in the refrigerator was not extremely low”, A police officer said, noting that an investigation is underway to determine if a violation of the law on the protection of animals of Korea has occurred.
The dog in question is an 11 -year -old female Maltese named Cookieowned by the 60 -year -old women’s owner of the pizza, indicated as “A.”
In a statement to Yonhap News, the owner explained: “Cookie recently spent a week in the hospital for acute disease. After being discharged, I was terrified that the heat could worsen its condition.”
He said that the shop air conditioner had worked badly, pushing her to create a fresh temporary rest area inside the lower shelf of the refrigerator positioning a blanket. The biscuits were periodically transferred inside and out to avoid prolonged exposure. “I made a mistake by putting it in the same refrigerator to keep the sauces”, He admitted. “But at the moment, I just wanted to protect cookies, who is like a daughter for me. I apologize sincerely with our customers.”
While public sentiment remains mixed, the experts have weighed. Shim In-Seop, head of the animal protection group, noticed: “For the accusations of abuse, the intention is fundamental. On the basis of its explanation, it does not seem to have acted with harmful intent. However, putting a dog in a refrigerator shows a serious lack of judgment.”
The veterinarians also stressed that elderly dogs with heart conditions are particularly vulnerable to heat. Dr. Moon Hee-Seop, director of the 21st century the Hue Animal Medical Center in Busan, explained: “Such dogs have difficulty breathing and high face blood pressure in the hot climate. For a dog equivalent to an elderly citizen, lowering body temperature is essential.”
While the owner’s concern is understandable, experts recommend faces or portable fans as safer alternatives during heat waves, especially when air conditioning is not available. As the temperatures continue to climb throughout the nation, the case acts as a clear reminder that even well -intentioned actions require weighted treatments especially when life are at stake.
