Reports suggest that filming took place in absolute secrecy last year, raising expectations as DiCaprio, a self-proclaimed fan of the series, joined the cast.
According to OSEN, the Hollywood actor finished filming the hit Netflix series “Squid Game 3” on January 1. Rumor has it that he will make a surprise appearance when the season releases this summer. Although her screen time is reportedly limited, details about her character remain tightly under wraps to avoid spoilers.
Netflix, however, drew a line, “We heard about Leonardo DiCaprio’s appearance, but it’s not true.”
In 2021, shortly after the release of the first season, lead actor Lee Jung-jae was photographed with DiCaprio at the “LACMA Art+Film Gala” in Los Angeles, sparking conversations about their connection. Later, during a red carpet interview at the SAG Awards, where Lee Jung-jae won “Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series”, he was asked which American actor he would like to see in the second season. He replied “Leonardo DiCaprio“, attracting attention.
Director Hwang Dong-hyuk also hinted at the possibility of Hollywood involvement in 2022. During a press conference in Seoul to celebrate the show’s six Emmy wins, he said: “Leonardo DiCaprio has personally mentioned that he is a fan of ‘Squid Game’. We even talked about asking him to join. Many actors have shown their love and interest for the series.“
Meanwhile, “Squid Game 2” followed the story of Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae), who returns to the deadly game seeking revenge, and his fierce confrontation with Front Man (played by Lee Byung-hun) . The third season is scheduled for release in the second half of this year.
