PocketDol Studio has announced that BAE173 member Lee Hangyul’s contract will officially expire on February 28th. In its statement, PocketDol Studio said: “Hangyul’s exclusive contract will expire on February 28. Over the past 10 years, we have shared a meaningful journey together, watching each other grow. We sincerely thank Hangyul for his quiet passion and dedication throughout this time. Even though our exclusive contract is ending, we wholeheartedly support his new endeavors and challenges in the future.”
In an unusual move, CEO Kim Kwang-soo personally addressed Lee Hangyul’s departure. He stated, “Hangyul has always stood by the company through good times and difficult times, through times of joy and sadness. He has been like a partner, a friend and even a little brother to me. I am truly grateful that he has remained with us for so long.”
Reflecting on his 41 years of observing artists, Kim noted that it is rare to see someone who steadfastly stands his ground with such sincerity. He added that Hangyul is someone very dear to him, deeply loved, and he sincerely congratulated him and blessed him as he begins a new chapter. Such a heartfelt message directly from a CEO highlights the importance of Lee Hangyul’s decades-long connection with the agency.

Lee Hangyul debuted in 2017 with the group IM and later gained public recognition after ranking 13th on KBS2 The Unity. His profile grew further through that of Mnet PRODUCE X 101where he was selected as the final member and debuted in the project group X1.
After X1 disbanded, he promoted to the H&D unit alongside Nam Dohyon before officially debuting with BAE173 on November 19, 2020. More recently, he was selected as the final member of the Survival Program Starlight Boys and is currently promoting as part of POLARIX, continuing to expand his career.
