On the April 12 broadcast of the SBS variety show My old manLee Beom Soo appeared as a guest.
During the episode, he shared, “As many know, I have been going through personal problems for about 2-3 years. It was a sad and painful time. Recently, things have resolved well.” revealing that she had finalized a mutual divorce with Lee Yoon Jin after two years of legal proceedings.
He continued, “In a divorce there is no winner. Both parties are hurt. My pain is not what matters, I feel more sorry for my children and the pain caused to my family.”
The divorce process between Lee Beom Soo and Lee Yoon Jin was anything but smooth. During the proceedings, Lee Yoon Jin posted complaint-like statements on social media, sparking numerous rumors. He stated, “Our daughter has been banned from entering the house in Seoul since late last year just because she chose to attend middle school abroad,” and further presumed “a bizarre double life, secret hobbies, padlocked things and even phones hidden in socks”, calling him “deceit and betrayal towards a sincere family”.
She also revealed that her parents, who were approaching 70, had emptied their bank accounts to help overcome financial difficulties, but were allegedly insulted by her mother-in-law with comments such as “Raise your daughter properly before sending her away,” that made them cry.
Responding to these accusations, Lee Beom Soo stated: “There were a lot of misunderstandings. From my point of view it was very upsetting. However, I think it was right to remain silent. I felt sorry for my children and I didn’t want to talk openly about something negative. I was just deeply sorry for them.”
The actor currently lives alone in what was the family home. He said that he personally cleans the rooms of his daughter and son, where traces of their presence still remain.
He explained, “During the trial, my daughter stayed with her mother and my son said he wanted to be with me, so we lived together. His mother must have missed him a lot. I accompanied him to school every day so he wouldn’t feel alone. Even if he didn’t show it, she must have missed him. My children are very mature.”
Lee Beom Soo also described the physical toll after the legal settlement, saying: “As soon as the deal was done, I lay down in bed without realizing it. The next day, my whole body felt like it had been beaten. I thought I was sick when the tension finally eased.”
He added, “A few days after the deal, my kids contacted me and said they missed me. I think it was the first time in years that I laughed with them.”
Lee Beom Soo married Lee Yoon Jin in 2010 and they have a son and daughter together. The couple announced their separation in March 2024 and proceeded with the divorce proceedings, officially concluding the legal process by mutual agreement last February.
