Tragic news has emerged that the grieving family of late actress Kim Sae-ron recently experienced severe emotional distress, with reports that a family member attempted to take her own life.
According to reports on March 14, the family had initially planned to attend a group screening event for the actress’ posthumous work, Every day, usheld in a CGV theater in Cheongdam, Seoul. However, they were unable to attend after a family member reportedly attempted an extreme act at the home a few days earlier.
A close acquaintance familiar with the family’s situation shared that their only wish is for actor Kim Soo-hyun to acknowledge the whole truth and offer a sincere apology to the late actress. The acquaintance expressed frustration, claiming that instead of doing so, Kim Soo-hyun and her legal team accused the family of spreading false information using fake evidence, which caused them further emotional pain.
The source also said that two years ago, when Kim Soo-hyun denied having a relationship with Kim Sae-ron, the actress felt as if her existence had been denied. Furthermore, in the aftermath of an injury-involving accident, the agency’s handling of Kim Soo-hyun reportedly caused the actress further distress. The acquaintance added that despite the situation, the family now feels they are being treated as if they were at fault, which has compounded their suffering.
It was also revealed that it was not the first time a family member attempted such an act and the situation is described as extremely serious. The acquaintance urged the public to immediately stop criticizing and insulting the grieving family.
Kim Sae-ron was found dead in her home in Seoul’s Seongdong district on February 16 last year. The date coincided with Kim Soo-hyun’s 37th birthday. In March of the same year, the family claimed through a YouTube channel that the actress had been in a relationship with Kim Soo-hyun for five years, starting in 2016 when she was still a minor.
The family continued to demand recognition and a sincere public apology, while Kim Soo-hyun’s side denied the allegations, stating that their relationship only began after she became an adult, from the summer of 2019 to the fall of 2020.
It was also reported that Kim Sae-ron had suffered significant stress during her life, including being required to pay approximately 700 million won in compensation from her former agency, also associated with Kim Soo-hyun, following a DUI accident in May 2022.
The legal battle between the two parties is ongoing. Kim Soo-hyun filed a 12 billion won damages lawsuit against the grieving family and the YouTube channel involved, while the family countered him with allegations including violations of child welfare laws and false accusations. The dispute continues to escalate, with both sides maintaining their positions.
