Youn Yuh-jung appeared in the latest episode of MBC’s “Son Seok-hee’s Questions,” which aired on August 31.
Guest Son Seok-hee, Youn’s neighbor’s cousin, said: “When you won the award, the neighborhood even hung a banner to celebrate the fact that a world-famous actress was born there.” Youn said, “I came home after a hard journey and found a banner written in a handwriting I knew so well that I thought to myself, ‘I feel patriotic about this kind of thing.’
Youn will be hosting the Academy Awards next year. About wearing a ribbon to console war refugees at the event, she said, “I was able to wear it on the advice of the organizer. I also said that I would wear it because I was a refugee from North Korea.” When the Son said: “There are people who say this is too political, right?” Youn responded, “Aren’t we all political?”
About his retrospective exhibition prepared by the Academy of the United States, Youn said: “It was a 1,000-seat space, so 1,000 people can come and see. But I heard 700 people have already booked.” Regarding the people he met at the event, Youn said: “There are so many great Korean Americans. Director Lee Seong-jin must be famous in Hollywood. He was my guest. How hard it must have been to get there. I feel overwhelmed seeing them. Korean-American directors come to see me when they make their debut. I guess I’ve become a kind of godmother to them.”
The actress will also shoot her next film in the United States “I haven’t signed a contract yet, but it’s also a Korean-American film,” Youn said. “I think there’s a rumor that I’m helping Korean-American directors. Now there are even German Koreans coming to me. That’s why I’m going to become a world star.” Youn said of his work with Korean-American directors: “I felt great. I’ve always cared about who I could help. How happy would I be if I could help like this?”
