Friday 13 December, political broadcaster Kim Yeo Jun testified before the National Assembly that he received a tip about a targeted assassination plot Han Dong Hoonthe leader of the Conservatives People’s Power Party (PPP) on December 3. Kim, a progressive political broadcaster with 1.84 million subscribers YouTubeappeared as a witness during a session of the Science, ICT, Broadcasting and Communication Committee.

In his testimony, Kim mentioned receiving numerous reports, including the activation of an assassination squad and a biochemical attack. He forwarded both to the legislature Kim Byung Joo from the Democratic Party. The broadcaster clarified that it had not been able to verify all the facts regarding the tips and continued to declare them as they would have received them.

Kim claimed that the plan was to assassinate Han Dong Hoon and pin it on North Korea while rescuing opposition leaders to make it appear that they were in cahoots with North Korea.

First, Han Dong Hoon will be murdered during transportation after his arrest… Second, escape after attacking the arrest unit, escorting Cho Kuk, Yang Jeong Cheol and me, pretending to save them… In Third, the North Korean military uniforms will be buried at a specific location… Fourth, after some time, the uniforms will be discovered and the incident will be attributed to North Korea.

Kim also mentioned further reports of plans to kill some American soldiers to provoke America into taking action against North Korea. Acknowledging that his testimony seemed like a made-up story, Kim also partially revealed the source of his tip. According to him, this information came from an allied nation with an embassy in South Korea.

Kim Eo Jun also mentioned First Lady Kim Keon Heeclaiming he appears to be urgently contacting retired officers. She admitted she had no idea why these calls were made, but urged authorities to look into the matter, given that her husband, the president, is commander in chief.

Kim said President Yoon’s recent speech, in which he said he would “fight to the end” it was the trigger that pushed him to come forward and testify about a story he would otherwise have dismissed.

To use the exact words, it was said that Ms. Kim Keon Hee believed, and still believes, [Yoon] would become unification president following martial law and constitutional revision… After hearing Yoon Suk Yeol’s determination to “fight to the end” in his speech yesterday, I felt that if there is even a slight possibility of risk to our community, should be disclosed, even if the information is incomplete. Kim concluded his testimony by saying that Yoon’s authority as commander-in-chief should be revoked as soon as possible.

The broadcaster had previously mentioned in a Reuters interview that he feared for his life the day martial law was proclaimed and went into hiding. His studio was reportedly surrounded by 20 soldiers on the night of December 3.

Kim Eo Jun’s testimony has gone viral X (former Twitter), leaving international netizens with shivers down their spines.

While Kim’s claims have yet to be verified, South Korean lawmakers will hold a second vote on the impeachment motion for Yoon on December 14, at 4 pm (KST).
