SM is accused of causing unnecessary pain to both Seunghan and fans.
SM Entertainment is facing heavy criticism from Korean netizens due to his handling of the former RIIZE member Seunghanhis return and the subsequent back and forth regarding his eventual retirement.
The company – known for managing some of K-Pop’s biggest stars – has been accused of mishandling the situation, leading to unnecessary confusion and emotional distress for both the fandom and Seunghan himself.
In a now viral post on TheQoonetizens pointed out where SM went wrong in handling the difficult situation. The post states that since Seunghan’s indefinite suspension nearly a year ago, the company has been uncertain about the former RIIZE star’s future. The 10 months it took for a final decision left the group’s diehard fans and even the public confused.
Some netizens believe that SM mishandled the situation by prolonging the uncertainty. They argue that if the company had calmly addressed Seunghan’s departure internally, it could have spared both him and fans the emotional toll.
If the company had handled his retirement calmly behind the scenes, Seunghan’s past private life would not have been resurrected, and he would not have been hurt by the fandom’s negative reaction to his retirement. For this reason, in the space of just two days, they made him write two long handwritten letters.

Netizens are particularly frustrated by SM’s lack of sensitivity and clear communication, which they say has caused more harm than good. For a company that has been in the entertainment industry for 30 years and is known for producing top-tier idols, many are baffled by how poorly the situation was handled, likening SM’s actions to those of an agency first weapons.
This is a company founded 30 years ago, known as the “powerhouse of idols”, but its management skills are worse than that of a company founded in 2024.

Many agreed with the post itself and also left their own comments on how much Seunghan and the fans seem to have suffered due to SM’s mismanagement.
- «Shouldn’t the two leaders of the center take responsibility and resign? They are so bad at their jobs. Do you really think they will do better in the future?”
- “I don’t even like Seunghan, but that’s SM’s fault. What a mess, lol.”
- “The fans have been through so much… it’s crazy.”
- “Isn’t the leader of the center taking responsibility?”
- “At the very least, they shouldn’t throw tantrums like this. Both fans and former member are hurt. What are they doing?”
- “I honestly feel sorry for that idol. Being so young, does he really have to suffer this kind of humiliation? I feel like the company is too harsh lol. Even things that are called ‘errors’ don’t seem like a big deal (;”
- “The leaders of the center should already apologize and resign.”
