Korean Broadcasting Association holds the political forum in crisis in the K-Content Revenue model

The Korean Association for Broadcasting & Telecommunication Studies (Kabs) has announced on May 27 that will host a political forum entitled “Support policies for the video industry of Korea: question the minimum Q and the distribution order” On 29 May at 14:00 at the Fki Tower of Yeouido, Seoul.

This forum comes between growing concerns about the structural instability of the video content industry of Korea, despite its global popularity. While the Korean content has obtained recognition all over the world thanks to the rise of platforms such as Netflix, YouTubeAnd progress in artificial intelligence (AI), the domestic industry must face the urgent need to establish a sustainable ecosystem.

The disparity is clear: the main video content manufacturers such as CJ Enm AND Dragon Studio Currently have a combined market capitalization lower than that of JYP EntertainmentA single K-Pop agency. This reflects the enlarged gap between global applause and economic profitability in the sector.

In response, the 37th Kabs Executive Committee launched the “Special Committee on Video Industry Policy in the era at” in January. Since then the Committee has conducted five months of intense research and discussions to develop strategic policy proposals.

The key topics to be addressed during the forum include the non-industrial value of the Korean video content, such as its role in improving the national image and its catalytic effect on other export sectors such as K-Beauty. The Special Committee claims that a restricted and specific approach of the sector has hindered the growth of the sector and has ignored its wider economic contributions.

Netflix earned almost 1 KRW trillion in Korea, but paid only 5 billion KRW in the miniature of taxes on companies

Central to the Committee’s recommendations is the need to guarantee a Minimum number of productions (q) and to establish a new distribution model suitable for the realities of the era AI. Their proposal, nicknamed the “Politics 5+2”, aims to face these priorities.

The forum will act as a platform to present these research results and to collect feedback from experts from academic, industrial and research institutes.

Looking to the future, the Committee aspires to Korea to become a global power plant comparable to the United States in the next decade. Imagine the ascent of Korean content companies with a market value greater than 10 trillions of KRW, consolidating the status of the country as a dominant force in the global media.
