Kim Tae-Hee returns with Hollywood debut: “Proud to play a Korean woman”

Actress Kim Tae-Hee officially entered Hollywood with her role in the new Amazon Prime Video series Butterfly. During a press conference held on August 21st at the CGV Yongsan i’Park Mall a Seoul, Kim Tae-Hee shared his thoughts on his first global project.

Based on the graphic novel with the same name, Butterfly It tells the story of the former United States intelligence agent David Jung (played and produced by Daniel Dae Kim) and the infinite chase of Rebecca (Reina Hardesty), an active agent sent to eliminate him. The cast includes international and Korean stars such as Park Hae-Soco, Sung Dong-Il, Kim Ji-Hoon, Lee Il-Hwa and Kim Na-Yoon.

Kim Tae-Hee plays Eun-Joo, David’s Korean wife. Describing his role, he said: “Eun-Joo tries to start a new life in Korea, but is involved in unexpected events while striving to protect his family. She is the most ordinary and daily Korean woman I have ever interpreted.”

This marks his first drama from Genie TV and Ena Lies hidden in my garden (2023) and his long -awaited return after two years. Speaking of the reason why he accepted the project, Kim Tae-Hee revealed: “There was no reason to refuse it. When I read the script, I was hooked and finished it in one session.”

He also admitted that his part is not a leading role this time: “Eun-joo does not appear in many scenes-and times only one or two per episode. I have mainly played main characters who have guided the whole story, but this time I wanted to support the narrative and add depth. It is a role that I really appreciate.”

Kim Tae-Hee underlined his motivation to face this challenge: “He is a comparable character. Strengthening a Korean woman, if I can show a positive image of Korean women, it would make me proud and honored. I hope that spectators appreciate the whole series, not only to focus on me. I would like people to feel closer to Korea through this drama.”

Reflecting on the meeting with promotional events, Kim Tae-Hee shared: “It has passed so much time since I met an audience in a theater premiere. I expected some promotional activities for our drama, but I did not anticipate this type of event. Experiment with a wonderful premiere in New York and then being welcomed by fans in Korea touched me deeply. It was a deep moment that made me feel comfortable.”

The six -episode series Butterfly It will be previewed on August 22nd, broadcast every Friday and Saturday at 10:40 pm on TVn for the Korean public, while streaming globally on Amazon Prime’s video.
